Jumpstart Your Future
with College Credits at NPC
Are you looking for a way to help your high school student get a head start on college? Concurrent enrollment at NorthPointe Christian (NPC) might be the perfect fit! Here’s everything you need to know about this incredible opportunity.
What is concurrent enrollment at NPC?
Concurrent enrollment allows high school students to take college courses during their regular school day. These courses fit within NPC’s standard seven-period schedule, offering students a seamless way to earn college credit without disrupting their daily routine.
In contrast, dual enrollment requires students to travel to a college campus for their courses, which often involves additional time commitments and logistical challenges.
Does concurrent enrollment affect high school GPA?
Yes, but students have a choice! At the beginning of the course, they can decide whether to include their college grade in their high school GPA. This decision must be made within the first 10 days of the class.
Many students choose to include the grade because concurrent enrollment courses are weighted on a 5.0 scale, unlike traditional high school classes, which are on a 4.0 scale. This can boost their GPA while also earning college credit.
Is concurrent enrollment included in my student’s tuition?
Yes! For courses taken from Michigan colleges, tuition is covered—provided the student passes with a C or higher. If a student does not pass, they are responsible for the course fee. Students can take up to 10 college courses during their high school career.
How is concurrent enrollment at NPC different from other schools?
One of the biggest advantages of NPC’s concurrent enrollment program is that all courses align with a Biblical worldview. Each professor affirms NPC’s Foundational Statements, and classes begin with prayer. This ensures that students receive a Christ-centered education while earning college credit. Additionally, our professors bring a wealth of experience and ministry involvement. Dr. Scott Shaw serves as a professor and Dean at Grace Christian University, while Dr. James Stokes, local senior pastor and president of Living in Fulfillment Everyday Inc., was recently featured in the Christian film Leap of Faith.
Who qualifies?
To participate, students must:
- Be fully enrolled at NorthPointe Christian.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Be in 10th grade or above.
Is it worth it?
Absolutely! Here’s why:
- Cost Savings: Students earn free college credits while at NorthPointe (already included in their high school tuition), reducing future university tuition costs.
- Academic Head Start: Especially beneficial for students who already have a career path in mind.
- Lighter College Load: Completing general education requirements early can make college less overwhelming.
- Transferability: These credits transfer to most colleges and universities, making it a practical choice for students planning on higher education.
Do you have any alumni students I can connect with about the benefits of concurrent enrollment?
Yes! Each year, we have students graduate from NPC with 30+ college credits. If you’d like to hear firsthand experiences, we can connect you with alumni who have benefited from concurrent enrollment.
Is concurrent enrollment harder than AP courses?
Both options are rigorous, but there’s a key difference:
- AP Courses: Students must take a final AP exam, and their score (on a 1-5 scale) determines whether they receive college credit. Many universities require a 4 or 5 for credit, meaning even a strong student may not earn credit.
- Concurrent Enrollment: Students earn college credit by passing the course—no final test required. As long as they complete their coursework successfully, they are guaranteed the credit.
